Establishment of National Office of Assistance to Refugees and Disaster Victims

The Government of Djibouti and IOM inaugurated a new facility in the capital of Djibouti to house the headquarters of the National Office of Assistance to Refugees and Disaster Victims (ONARS) a structure under the Ministry of the Interior. The new office is expected to strengthen ONARS’ operational support and assistance for refugees, asylum seekers and disaster victims, including migrants, throughout the country.

Launch of The Third National Strategy on Combating and Preventing Trafficking in Persons (2022-2026)

The National Coordinating Committee for Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons (NCCPIM&TIP), which is affiliated to the Cabinet of Ministers, launched the Third National Strategy on Combating and Preventing Trafficking in Persons for the period (2022-2026). It is a starting point and the beginning of new action plan in which we build on what was achieved upon the completion of the previous National Strategy (2016-2021). the National Strategy has followed the international scientific approach in the field of combating trafficking in persons, which is the four pillars’ approach “4Ps” (Prevention, Prosecution, Protection, and Partnership), which makes the strategy an effective tool in the hands of the government to protect individuals and the community as a whole.

Establishment of the Office of the National Coordination Mechanism of Migration

The Government of Djibouti inaugurated the office of the National Coordination Mechanism on Migration. This office will coordinate all migration issues in Djibouti and will be the main interlocutor for partners from the UN and the civil society working on migration at national, regional and global levels.

First National Strategy for Migration in Djibouti

in September 2021, Djibouti launched the first National Strategy for Migration. The strategy will help coordination between the country’s institutions on migration laws, policies, and future legislation, as well as promoting awareness of the rights of migrants, and their humanitarian and protection needs. The strategy will offer help and promote sustainable livelihoods for migrants impacted by conflict, protracted crisis, climate change and the lack of jobs in the region.  

Presidential Decree No. 42-20 on the establishment of the Algerian Agency on International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development

The responsibilities of the Agency on International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development are to: Participate in preparing and implementing the national policy for international cooperation in the economic, social, cultural, religious, educational, scientific and technical spheres; Assist the diplomatic apparatus and ministries to optimize foreign technical and financial assistance in support of national development; coordinate the implementation of the training policy of foreigners in Algeria as well as the training of Algerians abroad in consultation with concerned ministries; promote the employment of national competencies abroad in the context of international cooperation; Develop and maintain relationships with the Algerian scientific community and business men residing abroad, among others.

Royal Decree 63/2020 Ratifying the Agreement between the Sultanate of Oman and the Slovak Republic for the avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income

Oman and Slovakia signed an agreement that will allow residents of either or both countries to not pay double tax with regards to income by allowing deductions from one’s payable tax. The agreement further defines specificities of eligible persons and relevant taxation under this agreement, additionally mentioning that stateless persons who are residents of either Oman or Slovakia will not be held to more taxes than a national of either country.

Decree No. 2019-279 / PR / MI establishing a National Coordination Office for Migration
